Life has many aspects to it. From the day you were born, you were cared for and raised by your family.
When you grow older, you befriend people who are by your side and support you in life.
And throughout your life, you may fell sick, beaten by destiny and spirit dampened.
You may end up as a pilot, a doctor, a technician, a janitor, a waiter or a manager in your work.
All these aspects constitutes to the 5 balls in life that you got to juggle. The balls are family, friends, health, spirit and work.
The Family Ball
This is my most important ball to juggle. To me, nothing is more important than my beloved wife and my mum and my upcoming cool kid.
My father's passing in June 2020 made me realised that even though we might have all the time in the world, time is the most limited resource you can get in the world. My dad was in a nursing home and due to covid-19, I wasn't able to see him until I greet his cold frozen body. As cliche as it can be, treasure your loved ones and you can simply never spend enough time with those people you love.
The Friend Ball
The next most important ball to me, is my close friends. I had a bunch of band of brothers who had been there for me through ups and downs and I will not hesitate to be there for them in a heartbeat. In gist, they are sort of my extended family.
Nowadays, true friendships are far and less when everyone is trying to safeguard their own self-interest. So, if you got a true friend indeed, you are the richest man in the world.
The health ball
Why do I rank health after family and friends? I personally felt that it is only with the love of your family and friends, you will be pushed and motivated to care more for your health. We only live once and a huge motivator in life is to stay healthy and grow old with your family and friends.
The spirit ball
The ranking of this ball is really debatable, some say that you will need a high spirit to keep juggling your family, friends and health.
To me, my family, friends and health are what keep my spirit up. End of the day, it is a cycle whereby you need a strong spirit to support the other aspects and they in turn feed your ball of spirit.
The work ball
All the work that you had done up till today may be a result of your passion, a result of your academic pursuits or a result of your parents expectations.
But work is not the be-all and end-all, you can stop your work pursue and continue with it at a later stage and succeed.
For relationships, they are fragile, once broken, cracks will form and in most extreme cases, the balls will shatter and mending will not be possible.
I personally felt that the comedy movie 'Click (2006)' by Adam Sandler truly showcase how important the other balls are as his 'auto-pilot' mode made him focused on work and neglected the other balls, it's truly is the epitome of the importance of family, health and spirit even though it lacked the touch on friends.
I hope that you can truly live a successful and happy life. Not through work but through the successful balance of Family, Friends, Health and Spirit.
Be better everyday,
Leo
